Consultant - Obstetrics and Gynaecology Maternal and Fetal Medicine
Dr. Mariam Awatai is a Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist who holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the University of Lagos. She undertook her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the United Kingdom from 1992-2005 obtaining a Diploma from the Faculty of Family Planning, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK (DFFP), Level II Minimal Access Surgical accreditation from the British Society of Gynaecology and Endoscopy, Membership of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology – UK, Certificate of Completion of Specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, UK ( CCT, UK), Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound from the Royal College of Radiologists and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK (Dip RCR/RCOG). Following the completion of her training, she was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in North London for 7 years (2005-2012).
She was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK (FRCOG) in 2016 for her services and contributions to the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
She has over 25 years of experience and specializes in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, High-Risk Pregnancy, and Minimally Invasive Surgery. The services she delivers include- pre-conceptual counselling and pregnancy advisory clinics, prenatal diagnosis and fetal anomaly screening, high-risk obstetric medical management, fetal growth, and fetal well-being surveillance.
She also provides early pregnancy disorder assessment and treatment, fertility assessment, management of menstrual disorders and abnormal uterine bleeding, cervical screening, and management of disorders of menopause and perimenopause.
Dr. Mariam undertakes childbirth via normal deliveries, elective caesarean sections, Vacuum/ Ventouse deliveries. Forceps deliveries and Twin deliveries. She performs cervical cerclage/suture, external cephalic version, management of placenta Praevia, placenta accreta, and placental abruption. Dr. Mariam is experienced in hysteroscopy diagnostic and operative for endometrial polyps and fibroids, both diagnostic and operative laparoscopy for ovarian cysts, pedunculated fibroid, and ectopic pregnancy. She performs adhesiolysis for endometriosis, open laparotomy for myomectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, and vaginal hysterectomy too. She is also proficient in diagnostic cystoscopy, repair and revision of perineal tears, and pelvic floor repair for prolapse (anterior and posterior Colpoperineorrhaphy)
